ROAD CLOSURES

The third BALLARAT MARATHON road running festival will be held across the weekend of 25 & 26 April. The event features a Marathon and Half Marathon, along with 10km, 5km and Mile races. More than 12,000 people will be taking part across the weekend.

Each race will start and finish outside the Ballarat Town Hall in Sturt Street.

The schedule of events is as below:

  • Saturday 25 April
    5km and Mile races (CBD)

  • Sunday 26 April
    Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km races (CBD, Sturt St, Victoria Park, Lake Wendouree)

Road closures, traffic diversions and parking restrictions will be in place for the safety of runners and participants, spectators and the public.

ROAD CLOSURES & ANZAC DAY

Road closures will be in place on Saturday 25th April for ANZAC Day commemorations. For information on these closures, please visit the City of Ballarat website (click here).

HIGH IMPACT AREAS

  • Sturt Street – Grenville Street to Ring Road westbound and Golf Club Drive to Grenville Street eastbound
    (Golf Club Drive remains open to ensure access to Ballarat Golf Club and entry and exit from Insignia Estate)

  • Wendouree Parade

  • Victoria Park


IMPROVEMENTS FOR 2026

  • Crossing point at Dawsons Ave & Alfred St, Lake Wendouree (CLICK HERE for Google maps pin). Residents located in the high-impact area between Sturt St and Wendouree Pde will be able to exit the area and cross Sturt St at a special crossing overseen by traffic controllers. Vehicles coming from the Lake Wendouree side must queue at Dawsons Ave. Cars will be brought, one at a time, into the middle of Sturt St, then directed south on to Alfred St. Bollards will be removed from the northern slip road along Sturt St to ensure the majority of residents can access the crossing point.

  • Access to Crawford Rd from Bellington Dr - Ramps will be installed to ensure residents in the western section of Bellington Dr can access Crawford Rd and then exit the area via Golf Club Dr.

STURT ST - BOTH DIRECTIONS - Between Grenville St and Windermere St Sth and Raglan St Nth - 12.45pm until 6.30pm
LYDIARD ST NTH - Between Mair St and Sturt St - 10.30am until 7.30pm
LYDIARD ST STH - Between Sturt St and Bath Lane - 10.30am until 7.30pm
MAIR ST - No left turn into Lydiard St Nth - 10.30am until 7.30pm
ARMSTRONG ST STH - Between Sturt St and Bath Lane - 12.01am until 11.59pm

MAIR ST - No left turn into Lydiard St Nth - 12.01am until 4pm

  • Emergency access will always be maintained. In the event of an emergency, all emergency services (i.e. police, fire, ambulance) will be able to access all properties and businesses within the road closures.

  • A number of local bus routes will have diversions in place across the weekend.

  • Parking for residents and visitors will be restricted on sections of road that are closed for the safety of runners.

    Ample parking for runners is available in Ballarat’s CBD. There are many on-street car parking spaces, but please ensure parking restrictions are observed. In addition, the CARePARK multi-storey carpark at 25 Doveton St in central Ballarat, only a short walk from the start-finish, is offering extended hours across the Ballarat Marathon weekend.

    Saturday: 11am-9pm
    Sunday: 5:30am-7pm

  • Pedestrian access to shops along the course will be maintained at all times. There will be frequent pedestrian crossing points and opportunities.

  • The Ballarat Marathon road running festival is designed to showcase everything that’s great about Ballarat. We would love you to cheer on the runners and encourage your fellow community members to do the same. Everyone is welcome to be part of this event, whether by running, walking, wheeling, volunteering or helping build the atmosphere.
